Welcome to Equi Consignment Ireland — Ireland's home for pre-loved, hand-inspected equestrian gear. If you've ever scrolled DoneDeal at 11pm wondering whether that "barely used" saddle is actually fit for jumping a 90cm course, you're exactly who we built this for.

I'm Lucy Morgan. I ride, school and compete across Leinster, and I run ECI from a yard outside Gorey, Co. Wexford. Every item on the shop has been in my hands before it appears online.

What ECI actually is

ECI is a consignment shop for second-hand equestrian gear. Owners send me items they no longer use; I inspect, grade, photograph and list them; buyers across Ireland get vetted gear at a fair price; and sellers get paid when their items move.

There are three things that make it different from the usual classifieds approach:

1. Every piece is physically inspected

No "looks fine in the photo" listings. I check stitching, billets, tree integrity, foam, leather condition, hardware, brand markings and serial numbers. If a saddle has a broken tree or a dressage girth has cracked elastic, it doesn't go on the shop.

2. Honest A/B/C condition grading

Every item is graded against the same scale:

  • Grade A — Like new. Original tags or barely used. Minor signs of careful storage at most.
  • Grade B — Gently used. Light wear consistent with regular schooling. Fully functional, well maintained.
  • Grade C — Well used. Visible wear, scuffs, marks or specific defects — all photographed and noted.

You'll see the grade on every product card, and the defect notes are right there in the listing. No "ask me for more photos." They're already there.

3. Real measurements, real photos, one of each

Saddle seat size in inches, gullet width, panel type. Rug back length in feet and inches. Bridle by size (Pony / Cob / Full / X-Full) with browband length where relevant. Boots by EU size. We list what we have, in front of natural light, and when it's gone — it's gone.

Who ECI is for

You're probably the right fit if you're:

  • An Irish rider looking for quality used tack without driving the length of the country chasing classifieds
  • A Pony Club parent kitting out a fast-growing kid (you'll appreciate the fit guide)
  • A returning rider rebuilding your tack room without paying brand-new RRP
  • A coach or yard owner replacing schoolwork gear that's reached the end of its life
  • An owner with quality gear sitting in a tack box that you'd rather see used than wasted

Why pre-loved equestrian gear makes sense in Ireland

The Irish market for premium tack is small but discerning. A Devoucoux jumping saddle that costs €4,500 new can sit unused after a horse change. A pair of Ariat field boots outgrown after one season is essentially new. There's no good reason for that gear to gather dust — or end up on a non-vetted classifieds page where neither buyer nor seller is protected.

A consignment model fixes both sides at once:

  1. Sellers get a fair price without dealing with strangers, ghosting, or lowball offers
  2. Buyers get inspected gear at typically 40–70% off retail, with the brand quality intact
  3. Horses get equipment that fits and functions — which is the only thing that actually matters

The wider equestrian community in Ireland is regulated and supported by bodies like Horse Sport Ireland and Show Jumping Ireland — and the more the second-hand side of the sport runs to professional standards, the better for everyone in it.

What you'll find on the shop

The full catalogue is at /shop, but the main categories are:

  • Saddlery & Tack — jump saddles, dressage saddles, bridles, girths, stirrup leathers, bits
  • Horse Wear & Protection — turnout rugs, stable rugs, fly sheets, tendon boots, overreach boots, saddle pads
  • Rider Apparel & Safety — show jackets, breeches, riding boots, body protectors, helmets (unused only)
  • Stable & Grooming — headcollars, lead ropes, grooming kits, feed buckets, stud kits

[!TIP] Filter by brand and condition grade on the shop sidebar. If you only want Grade A or A/B items in a specific brand, two clicks gets you there.

How buying works

  1. Browse the shop, filter by category, size, brand or condition
  2. Open a listing — you'll see measurements, brand, grade and defect notes
  3. Add to basket and pay securely online, or message me on WhatsApp if you'd prefer to ask a question first
  4. Nationwide delivery across all 32 counties of Ireland — usually within 2–4 working days

How consigning works

If you've got gear sitting unused, get in touch. The process is simple:

  1. Send photos and a quick description via WhatsApp or the contact form
  2. We agree a fair listing price together
  3. You post the item (or drop it to the yard if you're nearby in Wexford)
  4. I inspect, photograph, list and ship
  5. You're paid when the item sells — no fee until then

[!TIP] Items that sell fastest: well-known brand jumping saddles in 17/17.5", quality turnout rugs in 6'3–6'6, and barely-used long boots. If that's what's in your tack room, it'll move.

Frequently asked questions

Is everything on ECI second-hand?

Almost everything — but a small number of items (mostly helmets and body protectors) are listed only as new with tags, never used. For safety reasons, I don't resell used head or back protection.

What if an item doesn't fit?

You have 14 days from delivery to return any item in the same condition you received it. The grade and measurements on the listing are honest, so this rarely comes up — but you're covered.

Do you ship outside Ireland?

Right now ECI ships across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. For UK or EU orders, message me on WhatsApp and I'll quote it manually.

Can I trust the condition grades?

Yes. The same person (me) grades every item against the same criteria, and the defect photos are in the listing — not hidden. If you ever feel a grade was generous, message me and I'll make it right.

How do I sell my own gear through ECI?

Visit the contact page or WhatsApp me directly. Photos + a quick description is all I need to start. There's no upfront cost — you're paid after the item sells.

Thanks for reading the first proper post on the ECI Journal. New writing lands here regularly — fit guides, brand notes, buying advice and the occasional yard story. If you'd like it in your inbox, the sign-up form is on the homepage.
